Coaching aims to help managers and executives to improve their effectiveness. After discussing the recent popularity of coaching, this article reviews its position alongside other professional development tools such as mentoring, training and therapy. However, despite the fact that coaching is now attracting many executives and significant investment, no formal assessment of its effectiveness or success factors has been carried out. Based on a review of prior writings on the topic and on interviews with a number of professionals involved in coaching (e.g., coaches, coachees, supervisors, HR professionals), the study proposes a framework that synthesizes how to measure the effectiveness of coaching and its underlying success factors. |
