This article introduces and discusses the results of a study exploring the implicit theory of leadership among French top executives. The results emphasize the importance given by top executives to the development of their leadership as well as they enlighten the centrality of charisma, vision and people management in the content of the representation. They also describe top executive’s experiences and beliefs about the leadership learning process. Beyond the description of the implicit theory of a social group, the author suggests to use the study of implicit theories of leadership as a tool to question the making of leadership theories as well as the practice of top executive’s training. |
