This paper explains the conceptual frame-work underpinning an action-research methodology aiming at restructuring the urban lay out and transforming the management system of social housing estates. This kind of action-research has been implemented on several estates, in Paris, Nantes or Amiens. This conceptual framework considers that social housing dynamics are the outcome of the relationship between the social and cultural profile of the inhabitants, the urban lay out organisation and the management system running these estates. The paper explains the differences between this kind of action-research and other kinds of methodologies, such as sociotechnical approaches or interactionist psychosociological approaches. |
