This paper tries both to propose hypotheses to analyze semantic and pragmatic meanings of icons and to illustrate them with famous photographs of the first part of the 20th century, taken from the Georges Pompidou Center.
The Icon in modernity is currently experienced as polyvalent and polysemic.
Only the contextual frame and the communication contract can determine a steady meaning of the photograph.
Eventually we stress the importance of physical interactions that is the part of feelings when faced with icons which implies a psycho-semiotic approach using both neuro-psychology or psycho-physiology and clinical psychology. |
