Topic

Organizational Behavior in a time of poly-crises

In the coming decade earth systems are expected to face increasing disruption from poly-crises of climate change, global pandemics, and geopolitical conflicts such as the evolving war in Ukraine. As a result work organizations, employers and employees will face new economic, social and cultural stresses on work and workplaces. I will examine the nature of these stresses, and some opportunities for studying and making organizational behaviors more responsive to them. This I argue will require rethinking basic assumptions and concepts of leadership, productivity (versus resilience), rigid work structures (versus flexibility), and work as exertion (versus play) in organizations.
